Our Story

When my wife Sunhee and I first came to the U.S. from Korea in 1993, I never imagined we’d one day be running a restaurant that would be so ingrained in the community.  In 2001, we took a chance on a tiny teriyaki shop in Tualatin — and it’s been one of the best decisions of our lives.

At first, I spent all my time in the kitchen, preparing and cooking the food. Over time, I realized what I really loved was being out front, connecting with the people who walk through our doors every day. That’s still my favorite part of the job — getting to know our customers, hearing their stories, and sharing ours. People often assume we serve Japanese food, and while our menu includes dishes like teriyaki and katsu, our roots are Korean. Our sauces and flavors reflect that.

We moved to our current location on Boones Ferry in 2009, just down the road from where we started. This community has supported us through it all, and we’re so grateful. Tualatin has always felt like home — friendly people, beautiful surroundings, and a downtown full of character.

Sunhee and I are here every day, still feeling blessed to do what we do.

Thank you for being part of the Mashita family.
